My Furry Valentine Pet Photos, Saturday, 2/8/2014, 11am-3pm

My Furry Valentine Pet PhotosPhotographically capture how much you love your pets (and they love you!) at our annual “My Furry Valentine” pet photos and fundraising event!  All well-behaved critters — dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits, pigs, and even humans — are welcome.  The $10 per photo suggested donation benefits Justice Great Dane Rescue, which currently has 13 BIG dogs in its foster program.

Due to the recent closure of a Great Dane rescue in a neighboring state, even more dogs are waiting to come into the JGDR program.  However, additional loving foster homes and resources are urgently required to accommodate all the dogs in need, so be sure to ask a JGDR volunteer how you can help.

Also participating in “My Furry Valentine” are special guests Stella & Chewy’s and Droolicious Canine Cookie Crafters, who will have tasty treats and samples for your dogs and cats.  Kim from Droolicious has dreamed up a yummy new dog treat that your pup (and you!) can taste-test during the event, so come early before the limited samples get gobbled up.

During the event we’ll be running a special sale on select Petcurean dog foods.  All medium (12 lb.) and large (25 lb.) bags of GO! will be 25% off regular price, so show your dog how much you love him with a Valentine’s gift of good nutrition.  Additionally, don’t neglect to buy lots of fundraising raffle tickets for chances to win some fantastic prizes, such as gift baskets from Primal Pet Foods and Dogswell.  Plus, we’ll have giveaways and goodie bags for attendees… just because we love you at Boofy’s!

We’ll look forward to seeing you and your pets tomorrow, but in the meantime, enjoy some adorable photos from 2013’s “My Furry Valentine” pet photos event!  (All photos courtesy of Justice Great Dane Rescue.)

Santa Paws Holiday Pet Photos – 12/07/2013

Huge holiday thanks to everyone who came out to this year’s “Santa Paws Holiday Pet Photos” in support of Justice Great Dane Rescue!  Below are some of our favorite photos of dogs, cats, and ferrets as taken by volunteer photographer Vicki Mlady.

This event was an important fundraiser for Justice Great Dane Rescue, who had 50 new intakes in their foster program and adopted out 49 dogs so far this calendar year.  One very pregnant surrendered dog subsequently gave birth to 9 puppies, a few dogs needed surgery for unusual medical conditions, and 4 dogs required costly treatment for heartworm, so in addition to all the usual vet expenses and food bills, JGDR spent an average of $500 on each dog they helped.

Support Team Boofy’s in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (Dogs and Cats Get It Too)

Breast Cancer:  Not Just a Human Disease

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fundraising walk

Support Team Boofy’s Best for Pets in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fundraising walk on Sunday, 4/28/2013.

One in 8 women will get breast cancer.  One in 1,000 men will get breast cancer.  But did you know our furry family members can get breast cancer too?

Mammary tumors are the most common tumors in dogs, and about 50% of them are malignant.  One in 4 unspayed female dogs will get mammary tumors, but spaying greatly reduces the risk of development.  In cats, almost 90% of mammary tumors are malignant, and mammary cancer is the third most common cancer in cats.  As with dogs, spaying before the first heat cycle significantly reduces a cat’s chance of ever developing mammary tumors.

Having lost a rescue kitty to mammary gland cancer (Carmela “C-Biscuit” Snickerdoodle*), we at Boofy’s understand the importance of supporting comparative oncology research.  We are hopeful that by participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fundraising walk we can help eradicate this disease for everyone, whether they have two legs or four.

Join Team Boofy’s Best for Pets on Sunday, 4/28/2013, for a 5-mile walk along the Rio Grande near Cottonwood Mall.  Cool event t-shirts are available for a limited number of team members.  If you can’t join us, then please make a donation to help us achieve a world without breast cancer!

*All the critters knew Carmela was a major killah.  She didn’t let a breast cancer diagnosis prevent her from keeping the toy mouse population under control.  We miss you and your yodeling, Grandma Scary!
